Double double, toil and trouble
This DIY is worth your trouble.

The last few weeks we’ve been day dreaming about costumes, candy corn and pumpkin carving. We’ve penciled in time for our favorite scary movies, and we’ve stocked up on apple cider. The only thing left was a spooky frame for the wall, and this week’s DIY fills that gap quite nicely. We can’t wait to share it with you!

This project is perfect for a Halloween craft night. It’s easy and there’s enough drying time that you’ll have plenty of time for snacks and small talk. Enjoy!

Easy Halloween Frame DIY

Supplies: Unfinished ornament frame (Follow the link to order a set of unfinished ornament frames.), black paint, glitter glue, glitter that matches your glitter glue, paint brush miniature broom sticks (We found these in the miniature section of Hobby Lobby.)

  1. Paint the unfinished ornament frame black.
  2. Once the black paint has dried, use the glitter glue bottle as a pen to dot the glitter on to the frame to create the stars.
  3. Double check the back of the frame to make sure you know where the top is.
  4. Use the glitter glue as a pen to draw a moon onto the frame. It was easiest for me to draw the outline of the moon and then fill it in. Remember the sides of your frame while you’re drawing on the moon; your moon will look best if it extends all the way to the back.
Bloomie tip: The moon was a little tricky. With a little experimentation, I found that the frame looked best when the moon was big enough that it looks like a little of the moon had been cut out for the frame opening. Start on the small side of what you think will look good. If you don’t like it, it’s much easier to make the moon larger than to make it smaller.
  5. When you’re happy with the size of the moon, carefully sprinkle a little glitter on top of the glitter glue while it’s still wet. This extra glitter isn’t needed for the stars, but without it the moon looks a little too much like a weird mistake and not enough like a gorgeous moon.
  6. While the moon’s glitter glue is still wet, place your miniature broom stick on the frame. The broom stick is light enough that I didn’t need to use any extra glue to make it stick.
  7. I printed a fun quote from the three witches in Shakespeare’s Macbeth to display in my frame. If you’re organizing a craft night or planning a Halloween party around this project, print out a few spooky quotes and sayings ahead of time and let your guests pick one to display in their frame. They’ll love having a completely finished project that’s ready to hang up as soon as they get home.
